well...no...
Cotton is the most widely used fiber for fabric because of its strength, durability and breathability. It can be loomed into wonderful patterns, dyed any color, and made into amazingly smooth sheets.
There are many different species of cotton. Inexpensive cottons have short fibers and expensive ones like Egyptian cotton have much longer fibers. Long fibers can be spun into fine thread and still be very strong.
If short fibers are spun into fine thread, it will be weak and the resulting fabric will be stiffer, it will pill easily and wear out quickly. If you have been tempted to purchase "high thread count 'Egyptian Cottons'" at unbelievably low prices, you have probably already found that out.
Giza Egyptian cotton is a very distinct and exceptionally high species of Egyptian cotton. We offer Sferra's Giza 45 and St.Geneve's Giza Egyptian Cotton. Both are considered to be the best of the best, though Sferra's Giza 45 is rated higher than St. Geneve's Giza. Sferra has done an excellent job of offering this exquisite Giza 45 Egyptian cotton in a percale, a sateen and several lovely jacquards.
St. Geneve offers their Giza Egyptian Cotton in a large assortment of beautiful colors and patterns.
Both Sferra's Giza 45 and St Geneve's Giza have been rated high in the long fibers category, and when spun into thread are exceptionally strong. It is difficult to grow, to handpick and to process, making it expensive. But it makes the most wonderfully supple, smooth fabrics.
Bargain "Egyptian Cotton" items are often made with as little as 5% actual Egyptian Cotton. Also, an item made of low quality cotton might be labeled "Egyptian" if that cotton was simply grown in Egypt.
It is important to note here that at Snuggledown.com we have selected the finest brands for our customers from manufacturers who have very high standards and work for excellence in their products. You can have confidence that each item is correctly represented.

Record Cotton Prices: Sferra's Paul Hooker on Fox Business News
Watch Sferra's President Paul Hooker on Fox Business News talking about high cotton prices and how they affect consumers. The price of cotton has hit an all-time high, doubling in less than one year, due to strong demand from China and decreased supply from flooding in Pakistan and Australia. For consumers, this means higher prices on cotton clothing and household goods like sheets and towels. To keep product quality high, Sferra and our luxury linen brands here at Laughlin Designs are being forced to pass along these higher cotton prices to the customer.
